Beer Sheva is the capital of the Negev and a university city, home to Ben-Gurion University and Soroka Medical Center. Thousands of students share rented apartments here, alongside families in houses and newer buildings. Their lock problems aren’t the same, and as a locksmith in Beer Sheva we deal with both, in plain English.

What can we do for you in Beer Sheva?

Every locksmith service we offer across Israel is available in Beer Sheva:

  • Lockouts: door slammed shut with the keys inside, locked door, lost keys, key snapped in the lock.
  • Lock and cylinder replacement: at the start of a lease, after lost keys, or when the cylinder is worn.
  • Security cylinders to reinforce a steel front door.
  • Securing a door after a break-in.
  • Free advice by phone or WhatsApp.

Renting near Ben-Gurion University? Sort out the keys first

The safest setup is a new cylinder at the start of the lease, agreed with the landlord, and one key per roommate. Around the university, in neighborhoods like Dalet and Vav HaYeshana (Old Vav), many apartments are rented to students year after year. Tenants move out, but their copies of the key don’t always leave with them.

Four rules for a shared apartment:

  1. Change the cylinder when you move in, after telling the landlord, and give them a key to the new one.
  2. One key per person, and keep a note of who has which.
  3. Don’t hide a spare under the doormat, in the electricity cabinet on the landing or in a plant pot. Those are the first places anyone looks.
  4. When a roommate moves out, collect their key before they leave.

If you’re new to renting in Israel, a few Hebrew words help when you deal with your landlord:

English Hebrew Pronunciation
Landlord בעל הדירה ba’al ha-dira
Lease חוזה שכירות chozeh s’chirut
Locksmith מנעולן man’ulan
Cylinder צילינדר tsilinder
Steel front door פלדלת pladelet

What are homes and doors like across Beer Sheva?

The older neighborhoods, named after Hebrew letters (Alef, Bet, Gimel, Dalet and so on), were built in the early decades of the state. Many have low-rise apartment blocks known as shikunim, with front doors of very different ages: some have been upgraded to steel security doors, others still have their original door and cylinder.

Newer neighborhoods such as Ramot, Neve Ze’ev and Nahal Ashan mix private houses and more recent buildings. A house often has several ways in: front door, back or service door, sometimes a gate. If your family has just moved in, check every lock early on, and consider a security cylinder for the main door.

Does the desert climate affect locks?

Yes. Dust and heat both take a toll. Fine sand works its way into the cylinder and makes the key stiff; clean it with a dry lubricant (graphite or PTFE spray), never oil, which traps dust.

In direct sun, a steel door can expand slightly. It starts to rub, and the bolt no longer lines up with the strike plate. If you have to lift or push the door to lock it, don’t force the key: that’s how keys snap inside locks. Call us for advice instead, which is free.

How does a call-out to Beer Sheva work?

We set out from Jerusalem, and Beer Sheva is a fair distance from our base, so always call first. We’ll tell you honestly whether and when we can come, without promising an arrival time. For a planned cylinder change, at the start of the academic year or when you move in, book ahead.

  1. Call or WhatsApp 055-508-8444 and say you’re in Beer Sheva, and which neighborhood.
  2. Give the exact address: street, number, entrance, floor, name on the intercom.
  3. Send a photo of the door and the cylinder.
  4. Ask for the price before you confirm.

We work Sunday to Friday and are closed on Shabbat; on Fridays, call early. If someone may be in danger behind a locked door, call 100 (police), 101 (Magen David Adom) or 102 (fire and rescue) right away instead of waiting for a locksmith.

After a burglary, our guide on what to do after a break-in lists the next steps. Closer to the coast we also cover Ashkelon, and every city is listed on our service areas page.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have an office in Beer Sheva?

No. SecureDoors Israel is based in Jerusalem and comes to you: Beer Sheva is a service area, not a branch. Everything starts with a call or WhatsApp message to 055-508-8444.

Do you also cover Omer, Lehavim and Meitar?

Yes. Our locksmith service covers all of Israel, including the communities around Beer Sheva. Give us the exact address when you call, and mention any gate or guard at the entrance to the community.

One of my roommates lost a key. Do we need a new cylinder?

If the key was lost with anything that shows the address, such as ID or a key tag with the street name, yes, and soon. Otherwise it’s a decision for you and your landlord, but changing the cylinder is the only way to be certain the lost key no longer opens your door.

My landlord only speaks Hebrew. Can you talk to them?

Yes. We work in English, Hebrew and French, so we can explain to your landlord directly what happened and what we recommend. This is especially useful when you need their agreement before changing a cylinder.

How much does a locksmith cost in Beer Sheva?

We don’t publish prices, because the cost depends on the door, the cylinder and the job. Describe the problem, send a photo, and ask for the full price, travel included, before you confirm.

Do you install interior doors in Beer Sheva?

No. Interior door sales and installation are limited to Jerusalem and the surrounding area. In Beer Sheva we provide locksmith services for your front door and its locks.
