Haifa is built in layers. The port and downtown sit at sea level, Hadar climbs the slope above them, and the Carmel neighborhoods run along the ridge, several hundred meters up. For a locksmith in Haifa, that geography, plus buildings that range from 1930s stone blocks to new towers, shapes how a job is planned. Here is what helps before you call, whether you live on the Carmel, in Hadar or out in the Krayot.
Do you really come to Haifa from Jerusalem?
Yes. Haifa is one of our locksmith service areas, like the rest of Israel, but we have no branch there: we set out from Jerusalem.
That is exactly why we never promise an arrival time in Haifa before we’ve spoken to you. On the phone we tell you honestly whether we can come and when. If the timing doesn’t work for your situation, you know straight away and can make other arrangements.
Here is what we do in Haifa, and what we don’t:
- Lockouts and door opening: door slammed shut, locked with the keys inside, lost keys, a key snapped in the lock.
- Lock and cylinder replacement: worn cylinders, lost keys, a new tenant moving in.
- Security cylinders and locks: upgrading a basic cylinder on a steel security door.
- Securing the door after a break-in.
- Free advice by phone or WhatsApp on how well your front door is protected.
- Not in Haifa: interior doors, which we sell and install only in Jerusalem and the surrounding area.
Why do slopes and stairs matter for a locksmith in Haifa?
Because on the Carmel the street often doesn’t lead to the ground floor. Many buildings on the slope have their entrance halfway up: you walk in at street level, then go up or down to the apartment. Some buildings can be reached from two streets, one above and one below, and whole neighborhoods are linked by public stairways.
So when you call, tell us:
- which street the entrance is on, if the building faces two streets;
- your floor counted from the entrance (“two levels down from the lobby”) rather than just a floor number;
- where to park: on the narrow, winding streets of the Carmel and Hadar, a tip on parking saves real time;
- the lobby code and the name on the intercom.
Share your WhatsApp location as well. On a hillside, two addresses that look close on the map can be a long way apart by road.
What kind of door do you have? It depends on the neighborhood
Haifa’s housing is unusually mixed, and the lock usually matches the age of the building.
- Hadar HaCarmel, downtown and Wadi Nisnas: plenty of older stone buildings, often with no elevator. You still find wooden front doors, original locks and cylinders that have been turning for decades. When a part is no longer made, replacing the whole cylinder is usually simpler than repairing it.
- Merkaz HaCarmel, Ahuza and Denya: a mix of 1960s to 1980s blocks and newer towers with a lobby, intercom and parking. Here the front door is most often a steel security door, the kind Israelis call a pladelet, with a multi-point lock and a replaceable cylinder.
- Neve Sha’anan, near the Technion, and the streets around the University of Haifa: lots of rented apartments, many of them home to students and researchers, some newly arrived from abroad. Between tenants, a new cylinder is the only reliable way to know who still has a key.
- Bat Galim and the streets near the port: salty, humid sea air gradually stiffens exposed cylinders. If your key is getting harder to turn, have the cylinder checked before it jams completely.
- Kiryat Haim, Kiryat Shmuel and the neighboring Krayot: flatter streets, lower buildings and more houses with a gate, which often means several locks for one home.
Thinking about an upgrade? Our guide to choosing a security lock compares the options in plain English.
How does a call-out to Haifa work?
- Call or WhatsApp 055-508-8444 and say “Haifa” and your neighborhood straight away.
- Describe the problem: door slammed, locked, key broken, cylinder jammed, break-in.
- Send a photo of the door and the cylinder. This far from our base, it is what lets us bring the right part the first time.
- Give the access details listed above: entrance street, floor from the entrance, lobby code, intercom name.
- Ask for the price and confirm the timing before we set out.
- Keep your phone on, so we can call you when we arrive.
On site, have something that shows you live there: your teudat zehut with the address on the sefach (the attached leaflet), your lease or an arnona bill in your name. After an opening, look at the cylinder with us; if it was damaged or the keys are gone for good, replacing it is the sensible next step.
Locked out on a Friday in Haifa?
We work Sunday to Friday and are closed on Shabbat. Given the distance, call as early as you can on Friday. Over Shabbat, start by looking for a spare key with a partner, a neighbor or your landlord; our guide on what to do when you’re locked out walks you through every option.
If a child, a vulnerable person or something on the stove is inside, don’t wait for anyone: call 100 (police), 101 (Magen David Adom) or 102 (fire and rescue), at any hour.
What about after a break-in?
Report it to the police first and photograph the damage for your insurer. Then the priority is a door that locks again: we replace the damaged cylinder or lock and advise you on the right level of security. The full checklist is in our guide on what to do after a break-in.

Frequently asked questions
Do you have a branch or office in Haifa?
No. SecureDoors Israel is based in Jerusalem and travels to Haifa like anywhere else in Israel. Haifa is a service area, not a branch, which is why we check availability with you before every visit.
Do you also cover Nesher, Tirat Carmel and the Krayot?
Yes, our locksmith service covers the whole country. Just be precise about the town: Kiryat Haim is a Haifa neighborhood, while Kiryat Bialik, Kiryat Motzkin, Kiryat Yam and Kiryat Ata are separate cities, and we need the exact address to plan the trip.
I’m a visiting student or researcher. Can I change the cylinder in my rented apartment?
Check your lease and ask your landlord first: some leases require the owner’s consent before a lock is changed. If they agree, a new cylinder is the simplest way to know exactly who can open your door. We can explain the situation to a Hebrew-speaking landlord if that helps.
Does it cost more because Haifa is far from Jerusalem?
We don’t publish prices: the cost depends on the door, the parts and the work involved. Describe the problem, send a photo of the cylinder, and ask for the full price, travel included, before you confirm.
Can you sell or install interior doors in Haifa?
No. Interior door sales and installation are limited to Jerusalem and the surrounding area, because each door needs measuring and fitting on site. In Haifa we do locksmith work only: locks and cylinders.
