Herzliya is really two places. To the west, the villas and houses of Herzliya Pituach and Nof Yam sit a few streets from the sea. Further east are the apartment neighborhoods of the city center, Herzliya B, Neve Israel and Neve Amirim, and the newer towers of Galil Yam. The city also has large English-speaking and French-speaking communities. SecureDoors Israel is based in Jerusalem, has over 10 years of experience, and is your English-speaking locksmith in Herzliya for houses and apartments alike, so you can explain what’s wrong in plain English.

What do we do in Herzliya?

All residential locksmith work for houses and apartments: lockouts, cylinders and locks, security upgrades and advice.

  • Lockouts: door slammed shut, door locked with the key, key snapped in the cylinder, keys lost or stolen.
  • Cylinder changes and lock repairs, on the front door as well as a back door or a garden gate.
  • Security cylinders and locks, for the main entrance and the secondary ones.
  • Securing a door after a break-in.
  • Free advice on making your doors more secure.

We sell and install interior doors in Jerusalem and the surrounding area only. In Herzliya, we work as locksmiths.

A house in Herzliya Pituach: which entrances need securing?

All of them. A house often has four or five ways in, and a burglar looks for the weakest, which is rarely the steel front door.

Entrance Common weak point What’s worth checking
Steel front door Original cylinder, never changed since the house was built The cylinder’s security level and whether the bolts engage properly in the frame
Back door or kitchen door Lighter door, basic lock A cylinder of the same standard as the front door
Sliding glass doors Often just a latch A keyed lock in addition to the latch
Garden gate Rust and a stiff cylinder from the sea air The condition of the cylinder and the strike plate
Roof terrace or basement access Easily forgotten A proper lock that is actually locked

The goal is consistency: a high-end cylinder on the front door doesn’t do much if the back door gives way to a screwdriver. Our advice is free: send photos of your doors on WhatsApp, or ask while we’re there for another job. To compare cylinder grades, read our guide to choosing a security lock.

Locked out of a house: why do we ask about the other doors?

Because the easiest way in isn’t always through the front. A back door or a gate with a simpler lock can sometimes be opened without damage, where the front door’s security cylinder would have to be drilled.

When you call, tell us:

  • every door to the house and what it’s made of (steel, wood, glass);
  • which ones are locked with the key and which ones simply slammed shut;
  • whether an alarm is set and who can turn it off;
  • where any spare keys might be.

Don’t climb in through a window or balcony, even on the ground floor: a fall or a broken pane does far more damage than a lockout.

New apartment in Galil Yam: should you change the cylinder?

It’s a good idea. During construction, handover and viewings, your keys passed through quite a few hands. A brand-new cylinder, with keys only you hold, resets the count without touching the door.

Two habits when you get your keys:

  1. Count the keys you receive and write the number down.
  2. If your security cylinder comes with a code card, keep it somewhere separate from your key ring: it’s what lets you order more keys.

The same logic applies whenever you buy or rent: changing the cylinder is the first thing to do when you move in.

Going abroad for a while: what should you check?

Your doors, your spare keys and the signs that nobody’s home, because an empty house is easy to spot.

  1. Lock every door with the key instead of just pulling it shut: a slammed door is held only by the latch.
  2. Check the secondary entrances: back door, sliding doors, garden gate.
  3. Leave a spare with someone you trust rather than under the mat, in a plant pot or in the meter box, which are the first places a burglar checks.
  4. Ask a neighbor to collect your mail and look in from time to time.

If you come back to a forced door, call the police (100) before touching anything, then follow our guide on what to do after a break-in.

How does a call-out in Herzliya work?

One call, an honest estimate, then the work.

  1. Call or WhatsApp 055-508-8444, with photos of the door and the cylinder.
  2. We tell you when we can get there from Jerusalem. Ask for the price before any work starts.
  3. On site, we confirm that you live there: ID showing the address, a rental contract, or a neighbor who knows you.
  4. We use the least destructive method first, then replace the cylinder if the keys were lost or the cylinder had to be drilled.

On Fridays, call as early as you can: we’re closed on Shabbat.

Which parts of Herzliya do we cover?

All of them: Herzliya Pituach, Nof Yam, Galil Yam, the city center, Herzliya B, Neve Israel, Neve Amirim, Gan Rashal, Yad HaTisha and the marina area. We also work in nearby communities such as Ramat HaSharon and Kfar Shmaryahu, and across the rest of Israel, including Tel Aviv-Yafo and Ra’anana.

Frequently asked questions

Our house has an alarm. Does the cylinder still matter?

Yes, the two work together. The alarm tells you someone is getting in; the door and its cylinder slow them down. A cylinder that can be opened without leaving a mark also makes an insurance claim harder, because there's no visible sign of forced entry.

Can one key open every door in the house?

With many cylinder models, yes: you can order a set of cylinders that all work with the same key. It's handy on a house with several entrances. Tell us how many doors you have and send photos of the current cylinders, and we'll tell you whether it works for your home.

We lost the key to our garden gate. Can you open it?

Yes. A gate fitted with a cylinder is opened and re-fitted just like a door, and the cylinder is replaced afterwards so the lost key no longer works. Motors for electric gates are a different trade, though.

I lost the code card for my security cylinder. Is that a problem?

Without the card you generally can't order new original keys. Your current keys keep working, but the day you need an extra one, the cylinder will have to be changed. If someone else may have seen or copied the card, it's worth changing it now.

I have to push or pull the door to lock it. Is the lock failing?

Not necessarily. Often the door has dropped slightly and the bolts no longer line up with the strike plate. Forcing it wears the lock and can eventually jam it with the door shut. Describe the problem to us: adjusting the strike plate or repairing the lock is sometimes all it takes.
