What can a Jerusalem locksmith do for you?
We fix the front-door problems Jerusalem residents call about most, on site at your home. Jerusalem is our base and the city we work in day to day, with over 10 years of experience in locks and doors.
- Locked out, door slammed shut, keys lost: emergency door opening, using the least destructive method that works on your lock.
- Stiff key, worn cylinder, just moved in: lock and cylinder replacement.
- Front door feels vulnerable: an upgrade to a security cylinder and straight advice on the rest of the door.
- After a break-in: repairing and securing the door once the police have been (see what to do after a break-in).
Advice on securing your door is free. A WhatsApp photo of the door and the cylinder is often enough for us to tell you what’s worth replacing and what isn’t.
Which Jerusalem neighborhoods do you cover?
All of them. The table groups the main neighborhoods by area; if yours isn’t there, it’s covered too.

Do you also cover the towns around Jerusalem?
Yes. Our locksmith service covers all of Israel, so the communities around the city are included:
- West: Mevasseret Zion, Har Adar, Tzur Hadassah
- East: Ma’ale Adumim, Kfar Adumim
- North: Givat Ze’ev, Adam (Geva Binyamin), Kochav Yaakov, Psagot
- South: Gush Etzion (Efrat, Alon Shvut, Neve Daniel, Tekoa, Nokdim) and Beitar Illit
Further west, Beit Shemesh and RBS have their own page. For everywhere else, see our service areas.
Stone house, shikun or new build: why does it matter?
The age of your building usually tells us what kind of lock we’ll find, and what the locksmith needs to bring. In Jerusalem there are three broad cases.
Older stone houses (German Colony, Baka, Talbiya, Rehavia, Nachlaot, Katamon). Some still have their original wooden or iron doors with old-style locks and long keys, or cylinders in unusual sizes. Send a photo first: the locksmith will come with the right parts and can tell you whether a modern cylinder can be fitted without spoiling the door.
1970s and 1980s housing blocks (Gilo, Ramot, Armon HaNatziv, Neve Yaakov, Pisgat Ze’ev, Kiryat Yovel). Most apartments have a steel “Pladelet”-type door (פלדלת), often installed decades ago and still fitted with its original cylinder. If the key catches, or the cylinder sticks out past the outer plate, it’s time for a security cylinder.
Newer and renovated buildings (Har Homa, new construction in Arnona, buildings extended under TAMA 38). Multi-point steel doors, a mamad (safe room), coded intercoms. After building work, ask yourself one question: how many keys passed between the contractor and the workers? If you have no idea, change the cylinder.
Moving into a Jerusalem rental?
Change the cylinder when you move in, especially in neighborhoods where tenants turn over quickly, such as French Hill near the Mount Scopus campus, Nachlaot, Rehavia or Kiryat Yovel. Former roommates, a cleaner, a handyman: someone has usually kept a copy. Let your landlord know, give them a key if your lease requires it, and keep the old cylinder in a drawer so you can put it back when you leave.
How does a locksmith call-out in Jerusalem work?
You call or message, we tell you whether and when we can come, and you ask for the price before any work starts. A few Jerusalem-specific details make the visit go smoothly:
- Full address: street, number, entrance (many buildings have entrances marked א, ב, ג: Aleph, Bet, Gimmel), floor and intercom code.
- How to reach your door: in Har Nof, Ramot or Bayit Vegan, many buildings are built into the hillside and the entrance isn’t always on the main street; in Nachlaot, the house may be at the back of a courtyard. Tell us the way in.
- What happened: the door just slammed, or it was locked with the key; a key snapped in the cylinder; a key left in the lock on the inside.
- A photo of the door and the cylinder on WhatsApp, if you can.
- Proof you live there: teudat zehut with its address sefach, a rental contract or an arnona bill. You’ll be asked for it before the door is opened.
- The price: ask before work begins. It depends on the door, the cylinder and what needs doing.
While you wait, our guide locked out: what to do covers what’s worth trying and what to avoid.
Fridays in Jerusalem: plan around Shabbat
We work Sunday to Friday and are closed on Shabbat. In Jerusalem, candles are lit earlier than in most Israeli cities, which leaves even less of Friday afternoon, especially in winter. If your lock is already acting up (a key that sticks, a door that won’t latch), call during the week rather than at noon on Friday. Before a chag, get in touch well in advance.
Interior doors in Jerusalem, too
Besides locksmith work, we sell and install interior doors in Jerusalem and the surrounding area: modern design doors, sound-insulating doors for a bedroom or home office, sliding polymer doors in white or cream, flush “zero line” doors and doors with decorative glass. It’s handy if you’re renovating an older apartment or replacing the doors after a TAMA 38 project: one contact for your front-door lock and your interior doors. Interior doors are limited to the Jerusalem area; if you live in a nearby town, send us your address and we’ll confirm whether it’s covered.

Frequently asked questions
Is there an English-speaking locksmith in Jerusalem?
Yes. We work in English, Hebrew and French, so you can call or WhatsApp 055-508-8444 and explain the problem in English. Before any work starts, we explain in English what is being replaced, which cylinder goes in and how many keys you'll get.
How much does a locksmith cost in Jerusalem?
We don't publish a price list, because the cost depends on the door, the lock and the job: a simple opening, a replacement part or an upgrade to a security cylinder. Describe the situation by phone or send a photo on WhatsApp, and ask for the price before you agree to the visit.
I own an apartment in Jerusalem but live abroad. Can you change the cylinder between tenants?
Yes, it's a common request. Contact us on WhatsApp or by email to arrange it: someone has to be on site to let the locksmith in and collect the new keys, such as your tenant, a relative or your property manager. Keep one key for yourself and decide in advance who gets the others.
Do you work in the Old City?
Yes, our locksmith service covers the Old City too, including the Jewish Quarter. Vehicle access there is limited, so tell us which gate is closest and describe the route to your door, or send your location on WhatsApp.
I lost my keys on the light rail or in the shuk. Do I need a new cylinder?
If anything lost with the keys links them to your address, such as an ID card, a name tag or mail, change the cylinder right away. If the keys were completely anonymous the risk is lower, but many people still prefer a new cylinder for peace of mind.
